Prince started his rise in 1978, with his debut album, 'For You,' and he began setting himself apart from his musical peers with his fifth studio album, '1999,' which was released in 1982.

But it wasn't until 1984, when the iconic musician achieved massive stardom with the release of his movie 'Purple Rain' and its accompanying soundtrack.

'Purple Rain' was a No. 1 album and his singles 'When Doves Cry' and 'Let's Go Crazy' were No. 1 hits as well. The project also won Best Soundtrack and Best Rock Vocal Performance at the 1985 Grammy Awards.

The album has sold over 20 million records to date, making it the sixth best-selling album of all time.
