The Clark Sisters’ ‘You Brought the Sunshine’ Becomes Crossover Hit – Black History Month

The Clark Sisters were a group of young gospel singers who brought a new energy to the traditional sounds of the church.

By 1980, their song, 'Is My Living in Vain,' became their first chart-topping gospel song. In 1983, they crossed over into the R&B charts with the success of their song 'You Brought the Sunshine,' which peaked at No. 83 and also at No. 23 on the U.S. Dance Charts.

The group's success outside of the gospel charts lead the way for other artists who followed in their path such as Kirk Franklin and Mary Mary.
