'Doggystyle' was an album unlike anything out of the West Coast in the mid-90s. Snoop Doggy Dogg had a classic on his hands, but what made his situation extra special was the fact that he had already become a bona fide star based on his standout appearance on Dr. Dre's 'The Chronic' the previous year. 'Doggystyle' maintained that ultra-cool Cali flavor, Snoop waxed poetic about everything from drinking on 'Gin & Juice' to sexual exploits on 'Ain't No Fun (If the Homies Can't Have None).' Within a year, Snoop Dogg had L.A. on lock.
