J. Cole Drops ‘Truly Yours’ EP Before ‘Born Sinner’ Release
While J. Cole puts the finishing touches on his second album, 'Born Sinner,' he decided to give fans some unreleased material to hold them over. Last night, the Roc Nation artist dropped a five-track EP titled 'Truly Yours,' via his Dreamville blog.
According to Hollywood Cole, these songs didn't make the cut for his second album for whatever reason so rather than hold on to them, he's giving it to us for free. Now how cool is that?
One song that caught our ears is the opening track called 'Can I Holla at Ya.' The tune samples Lauryn Hill's song 'To Zion' from her classic 1998 album 'The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.' Another song, the piano-driven 'Tears for ODB,' features the North Cackalacky emcee reflecting on the struggles of making his dreams become a reality.

I appreciate you giving me the time I needed to grow, experiment, and find the direction for my 2nd album.. And I have.
Along the way I’ve recorded at least 4 albums worth of material, lots of it being unfinished demo versions waiting to be polished up, some of them are great songs and important stories that just won’t make the album (either they don’t fit Sonically, don’t fit Theme, or there’s just not enough space) .
Tonight, I want to give you a few of these songs because you deserve them. It’s hard as fuck for me to keep all this music from you for so long, so I know it’s been hard for you to wait. Thank you for your patience. Vibe out to these songs in their raw form, no polish.. just a lot of my soul..
The wait is over.
