The Beastie Boys' Adam Yauch aka MCA passed away last May 4 at the tender age of 47 after battling cancer. He was honored today (May 3) when Palmetto Playground in his native Brooklyn was renamed Adam Yauch Park at a special ceremony.

Even Mayor Bloomberg tweeted about the renaming event. It just goes to show how special MCA was and how many people loved and respected him for his musical talents and his humanitarian efforts.

The NYC Department of Parks held a ceremony to officially change the name of the Brooklyn Heights location, which is actually where the rapper learned how to ride his bike as a youngster.

You can see the memorial plaque below. It's the ultimate commemoration for a Brooklyn boy done good and someone who left an indelible mark on hip-hop and popular culture.

New York City Council Member Stephen Levin tweeted from the ceremony, sharing a brilliant quote delivered by Yauch's fellow Beastie Boys member Adam "Ad-Rock" Horovitz, who spoke at the ceremony. Ad-Rock put the trio in the same context as rap collective Wu-Tang Clan and his words traveled virally among fans and even city officials.

May many young Brooklyn-born children enjoy a bike ride and more at Adam Yauch Park.
