Earlier this week, Usher's family avoided tragedy when two audio-visual contractors saved his son Usher Raymond V's life when his arm got stuck in a pool drain. The heroic efforts came after the 5-year-old's aunt and a maid's rescue attempts failed.

The R&B crooner finally spoke about the accident that forced him to be at his son's side at an Atlanta hospital. "I am blessed and fortunate to say that my son Usher V is doing well and is recovering," he said in a statement to MTV. "I am overwhelmed by the outpouring of prayers, love and support for my family's well-being. I would like to thank my Aunt Rena as well as the doctors and nurses who are working with us around the clock."

He went on to express his gratitude for the two workers who saved Raymond V's life: "I would especially like to thank the two men who saved my son's life, Eugene Stachurski and Ben Crews. They are true heroes and I am deeply grateful to them."

The statement comes after ex-wife Tameka Foster filed legal papers for custody of the former couple's two children Tuesday in Fulton County, Ga. She believed her actions are necessary because Usher is usually out of town and leaves the children in the care of others.
