Jay-Z, Usher, Nelly and Ludacris Perform at So So Def’s 20th Anniversary Concert
Hip-hop and R&B superstars Jay-Z, Mariah Carey, Usher, Ludacris and So So Def artists -- past and present -- performed at Jermaine Dupri's So So Def 20th Anniversary All-Star Concert in Atlanta Saturday (Feb. 23).
The celebratory concert looked more like a Grammy party than a family reunion-of-sorts, as So So Def artists Bow Wow, Da Brat, Jagged Edge, Xscape and others saluted JD and his storied label.
According to Access Atlanta, Kris Kross kicked things off, performing their classic songs 'Warm it Up' and 'Jump' -- and this time they wore their pants the correct way. They were followed by one-half of Xscape -- sisters Tamika and LaTocha Scott -- as Kandi Burruss and Takema "Tiny" Harris refused to perform amid reports of a rift between the girls.
The first lady of So So Def, Da Brat was also in the building donning her trademark braids as she performed her hits including 'Funkdafied.' She was followed by the R&B quartet Jagged Edge, who invited Nelly to perform 'Where's the Party At?
Other performers included Bow Wow, Anthony Hamilton, Bonecrusher, YoungBloodZ and J-Kwon (where has he been?!?!).
But the highlight of the festive evening came when JD brought out Jay-Z to perform their classic banger, 'Money Ain't a Thang.' Later, JD allowed Hov to rock the crowd with 'Public Service Announcement,' a truncated version of 'N----s in Paris' and a cappella renditions of 'Jigga What, Jigga Who' and 'Clique.'
Usher was also in the house and thanked JD for giving him his most No. 1 hits. He then performed 'Confessions' from their collaborative album of the same name, which sold over 20 million copies worldwide. Fellow ATLien Ludacris joined Ursh for a rendition of 'Yeah' and later stayed for a rousing performance of 'Welcome to Atlanta.'
Before closing out the concert, Dupri brought out one more surprise guest -- Mariah Carey -- who presented JD with a lavish cake and wished her friend and producer a happy 20th anniversary.
Overall, Jermaine Dupri's concert for his beloved city of Atlanta was so so def.
