In 1995, there were a lot of rumors flying around about a rivalry between the East and West Coasts, primarily due to a misunderstanding between Tupac Shakur and the Notorious B.I.G.

Within that time, many fans were taking sides and Tupac had just been released from prison after serving 11 months on a sexual assault charge. For East Coasters, 'California Love' is infamously known as the track where -- during the recording of the video -- 'Pac taunts Biggie by alluding to having had relations with his estranged wife, Faith Evans.

Regardless of the drama surrounding the rapper at that time, Shakur had a hit on his hands with the Dre-produced jam, which quickly became a California anthem.
