Notorious B.I.G.’s Childhood Apartment Selling for $725,000
The childhood apartment of the Notorious B.I.G. has gone up for sale. The unit, located in Brooklyn's Clinton Hill neighborhood, is listed for $725,000.
Long before he was Bad Boy's star player, the man born Christopher Wallace honed his rap skills inside 226 St. James Place, where he lived with his mother, Voletta Wallace. Since his untimely death, the apartment has become a hip-hop landmark of sorts, and was renovated a few years back.
According to listing agent Judith Lief, there's no way to tell if the Biggie connection will affect the sale. "The tour buses that come by regularly are enough," she said. "I don't really know yet what impact, if any, [Biggie's looming presence] will have on the sale. I think it'll be notable, but I don't know if novelty translates to a purchase."
The 972-square-foot unit features three bedrooms, one bathroom, a den, a basement laundry room, an office, hardwood floors and granite counter tops.
Interested buyers may be drawn to the fact that the location is close to subway stops, shops and restaurants, but given Biggie's place in hip-hop history, the endless trail tour buses could raise an issue.
