Jay Z and Beyonce took time out of their busy schedules to attend Justice for Trayvon Martin rally Saturday (July 20) in New York. The vigil was one of 100 held today nationwide from Los Angeles to Miami.

The Rev. Al Sharpton stood before hundreds of New Yorkers who came out to protest the Stand Your Ground laws as well as the acquittal of George Zimmerman in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin.

"Jay Z and Beyonce said they didn’t want to speak and they didn’t come for a photo op," Sharpton told the crowd (quotes courtesy of the Huffington Post). "Beyonce put a beautiful message up on Instagram. Let me tell you, that before a lot of you were down, Jay Z always supported us."

"Jay Z told me, 'I'm a father. Beyonce is a mother.' We all feel the pain and apprehension -- the laws must protect everybody, or it doesn't protect anybody," added Sharpton. "We do not come from hate, we come from love of children."

Chants of "I am Trayvon Martin" and "No justice, no peace!" were heard throughout the event.

Jay Z, along with Justin Timberlake, dedicated 'Young Forever' to Trayvon Martin at the duo's Legends of the Summer tour launch in Toronto last Wednesday (July 17).
