Drake Talks ‘NWTS,’ Mother’s Anger, Singing Album + More in CRWN Interview
Now that Drake's album 'Nothing Was the Same' is in stores, the OVO leader sat down with journalist Elliott Wilson at New York University's Skirball Center for his latest #CRWN series. In the interview, Drizzy talks about his album, Kendrick Lamar's 'Control' verse and more.
On Episode One (see above), Drake discusses the recording process behind 'NWTS' with his longtime collaborative partner Noah "40" Shebib.
"What happened was, I was trying to make a body of work that from front to back was a complex body of work, but an easy listen," he says. "I wanted it to be such a journey that once it's over, you're like 'Man, I gotta listen again.' Some of my favorite albums are like that."
Drake did address Lamar's 'Control' verse and offered his thoughts on the Compton MC's bold statements on the track.
"[Kendrick] is giving people moments," he says of K.Dot's infamous line.
In Episode Two (watch below), Drake talks about 'Pound Cake,' his collaborative tune with Jay Z. The Toronto rapper revealed that the song was originally slated for Beyonce and that Hov's verses were actually written for 'Magna Carta Holy Grail.'
Elsewhere, the 26-year-old artist talks about his love-hate relationship with the rap critics and shot down any notion that he lets Internet rap nerds affect how he promotes his work.
Near the end, his producer and friend 40 joins the discussion to talk about the musical direction on 'NWTS.'
