Macklemore performed 'Same Love' his tender ode to same-sex marriage at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards at Brooklyn's Barclays Center Sunday night (Aug. 25)..

The song has struck a chord with America even more so with the recent Supreme Court ruling against the Defense of Marriage Act.

Dressed in a grey suit, the Seattle rhymer relayed his introspective lyrics about his own straightness and homophobia in hip-hop. Macklemore was backed by a brass section and Mary Lambert who sang the touching chorus.

The big surprise came at the end when Macklemore brought out R&B songbird Jennifer Hudson. J.Hud grabbed the hand of Lambert and together the duo repeatedly sang the yearning lines, "Love is patience, love is kind."

Macklemore, who won two Mooman trophies at the VMAs, celebrated onstage what he believes "is the biggest civil rights movement of our generation."

And we have to agreed. Bravo, Macklemore!
