Kendrick Lamar was a no-show to accept his Best New Artist Award, but he was on hand to grab his Best Male Hip-Hop Artist trophy at the 2013 BET Awards Sunday night (June 30).

The Compton rhymer already had a big night gracing the stage twice for two big performances. His duet with Erykah Badu on 'Bitch, Don't Kill My Vibe' was probably the most memorable along with his cameo appearance during Miguel's rendition of 'How Many Drinks?'

At the podium, Lamar -- dressed in all-black including hoodie, jeans and sneakers -- looked poised and humble to receive his Best Male Hip-Hop Artist trophy.

"First off, all glory to God," he said. "Glory to my family, my homeboys, my friends, my team -- TDE, we've having been rocking for a long time. Ten years in the making."

Lamar finished his acceptance speech with a nod to the kids in his Compton neighborhood who are now watching him shine at the 2013 BET Awards.

"To all of my little homeboys and homegirls back in the city [Compton], you looking at me on TV right now, I came up in that same county building -- food stamps, welfare [and] section 8," he said.

"You're looking at me on TV right now, this is living proof that you could do anything if you put your mind to it, real talk," he continued. "They call us the minority -- blacks and Latinos -- but for sure if you keep love, God, respect and hard work in your heart, you could do anything you want in your life."

It's safe to say that this Compton 'kid' has done 'good.' See what we did there?

Congratulations Kendrick Lamar for winning Best New Artist and the Best Male Hip-Hop Artist honors at the 2013 BET Awards!
