Bay Area rapper Kafani, real name Amir Rashad, is in critical condition after being shot several times while filming a video in Oakland, Calif.

According to Inside Bay Area, the shooting happened in East Oakland on Saturday (Sept. 28) at 11:30PM PST.

Apparently, during the video shoot, a man approached Kafani and told him that he was not allowed to film in the area. Shortly thereafter, the man shot the rapper several times hitting him in the chest and spine.

Thankfully, friends were able to rush Kafani to a local hospital where he remains in critical condition.

This is not the first time Kafani was involved in a shooting. In November 2011, authorities say the rapper was at the scene of a West Oakland shooting, in which eight people were shot, including a 23-month-old child who later died. The rapper's van was riddled with bullets, according to a police report.

Kafani is the founder of the group Babyface Assassins and has been rapping since 2005, as detailed on his official website. He's performed with Oakland rap legends like Too $hort, Keak da Sneak and Yukmouth. The rapper is best known for his hit singles, 'Fast (Like a NASCAR)' and 'She Ready Now.'

We send our prayers to Kafani and his family and hope he recovers from this unfortunate incident.
