Eminem, ‘Love the Way You Lie’ – Controversial Songs

Eminem's 'Love the Way You Lie' featuring Rihanna heard critics from both sides of the issue of domestic violence in August 2010.

The hook says it all. "Just gonna stand there and watch me burn / Well, that's alright because I like the way it hurts," Rihanna sings.

Some critics believed the song was imitating the real lives of Eminem and Rihanna. Em had been involved in a difficult relationship with his ex-wife Kim, who he divorced in 2001, and again in 2006. Chris Brown assaulted Rihanna in 2009. However, some felt if the lyrics were not interpreted as a lesson it could influence the idea of blaming the victim in an abusive relationship and encouraging that behavior.
