Drake Parodies Famous Pop Culture Moments in ‘Energy’ Video
Five months after Drake released his celebrated mixtape/album If You’re Reading This, It’s Too Late, he finally delivers a video for his fan-favorite track, “Energy.” The clip is wildly imaginary as Drizzy pokes fun at some of America's famous pop culture moments.
The Fleur & Manu-directed clip, released exclusively on Apple Music, features Drake morphing himself into several different celebrities. In one segment, he becomes Oprah Winfrey while watching Tom Cruise jump up and down on the couch, in another, he’s Kanye West reenacting his motorcycle scene in the “Bound 2” video.
He even portrays Miley Cyrus in her “Wrecking Ball” clip. The Toronto rhymer also impersonates fellow Canadian Justin Bieber, President Obama, Floyd Mayweather, LeBron James and many others.
In an interview with Zane Lowe on Beats 1, Drake was inspired by Michael Jackson’s “Black or White” visual and wanted to take it to another level.
"I was like, ‘Man, you know, effects have come such a long way. I bet we could do something crazy with this," he said (quotes courtesy of Rap-Up). "I want people to rewind it a bunch of times and go and tell someone else to watch it. It’s shocking, it’s beautiful, it’s a lot of things.”
It sure is.
