Bruno Mars’ Mother, Bernadette Hernandez, Dies
Bruno Mars has suffered a huge loss in his family. The singer-songwriter's mother, Bernadette Hernandez, passed away Saturday (June 1) of a brain aneurysm. She was 55 years old.
According to the New York Daily News, the matriarch died at Queens Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Mars (real name Peter Hernandez) was very close to his mother, a former hulu dancer and singer who nurtured her son's music career.
In a 2011 interview, Hernandez said she was proud of her son's success and couldn't imagine how far he has come in his career.
"Bruno I am so proud of you. I knew this was going to happen but not this extent," she said. "I still think of him as my baby and keep forgetting he is a grown man."
Hernandez leaves her husband, Peter, and five other children to mourn for her. The singer has four sisters who are currently in a girl group and a brother who is a drummer in his band.
We send our sincerest condolences to Bruno Mars and the Hernandez family.
