Jermaine Dupri Reveals His Favorite Moment in Black History
February is Black History Month and entertainers are celebrating the occasion with some of their fondest memories.
When super-producer Jermaine Dupri was asked about his favorite moment in black history, he immediately confessed that President Barack Obama's 2009 victory was a big deal for him.
"I knew [Obama] before he became president, so to see [him win] was like, you know, it’s a crazy situation," Dupri tells TheDrop.fm.
The Atlanta native first met Obama when he was a guest of Oprah Winfrey at an event she held in New York City. "Oprah was telling me, 'This guy is going to be the next president.' When someone tells you that, you really don’t take that seriously," Dupri shares. Now that POTUS is on his second term, it all seems surreal.
Dupri will be celebrating the 20th anniversary of his label So So Def Recordings on Feb. 23, in Atlanta with an all-star concert. The anniversary show will feature platinum-selling acts such as Bow Wow, Da Brat and Jagged Edge.
