Supreme Court Ruling on Same-Sex Marriage: Alicia Keys, Tyler the Creator, Macklemore React
The music world has been very supportive in the ongoing campaign to legalize gay marriage. The news of the Supreme Court ruling to overturn two laws prohibiting same-sex marriage certainly brought joy to many artists who have been outspoken about marriage equality.
To sum it up, the Court ruled on Wednesday (June 26) that the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) was unconstitutional by a 5-4 majority vote, which effectively restored the legality of gay marriage in California.
Macklemore, whose song ‘Same Love’ is an ode to marriage equality, wrote a jubilant tweet about today’s ruling.
HUGE CIVIL RIGHTS VICTORY TODAY! Beautiful moment for America and humanity as a whole. Inspired. #equality
