Otis “Damon” Harris, of the legendary Motown group the Temptations, passed away on Feb. 18 at the age of 62.

His daughter, Erica Harris Outlaw, told CNN that the singer died after a long bout with prostate cancer.

“He was in great pain for the last several months,” she said. “He was the kind of dad where you wanted the best for him. We’re going to really miss him. We miss him already.”

Harris joined the group in 1971, replacing Eddie Kendricks, who left to pursue a solo career. The Baltimore native sang tenor on the Temptations’ last No. 1 R&B hit single, ‘Papa Was a Rollin’ Stone,’ and sung on ‘Just My Imagination’ and ‘The Way You Do the Things You Do,’ among many other songs.

Harris’ real name was Otis, but he had to change it to Damon to avoid confusion with fellow group member Otis Williams. He was later ousted from the Temptations in 1975, and in later years, toured with his own version of the Temps dubbed the Temptations Review Starring Damon Harris.

“I am saddened to hear about Damon,” said Dennis Edwards, who was in the group with him. “He will be missed.”

Funeral arrangements are still pending.
