One of the lesser profiled faces from the Odd Future collective, Mike G, is back and drops his 'Verses' mixtape.

'Verses,' a collection of his most noteworthy verses, was created to highlight the standout verses of the OFWGKTA member's career to this point, and it does. But will it have you checking for him on the next Odd Future album? The verdict is still out on that one.

If this tape sounds like a bunch of stuff thrown together, well it is. For the most part, that's not a bad thing here. It shows the different dimensions of the Odd Future member; he can be funny, witty, have a serious flow that'll make you wonder and a usually slow pace that'll force you to focus on what he's saying.

On 'Swiss Army,' a very short track -- it's just short of a minute-and-a-half -- Mike G doesn't quite win over any listeners. The bars aren't quite snores, but they're not ear-grabbing either. For instance, he raps, "I roll like snowball effects / Just watch me grow / I'm Jack Frost / I'm so cold, my shadow glows." Not entirely a wack line, but falls far short of great. While keeping the winter imagery going, Mike G plays around a bit, closing out the track with the famous quote from 'Home Alone 2': "Merry Christmas ya filthy animal." Not a bad touch.

In what would be a daunting task, but gets points for the risk, Mike G raps over Notorious B.I.G.'s 'Dead Wrong.' Any rapper jumping on a record from the late, great Brooklyn emcee's is up for criticism from the start. If you can get passed the lackluster first verse, you'll come across a nice line in the last one where Mike G rhymes, "Documentation, the first time I picked up a pen / And wolves'll come and get ya / See more crosses than Christians."

This tape won't win any Mixtape of the Year awards, but you just have to look for the right tracks. Hit the link below to check it out for yourself and sound off in the comments below with your thoughts on Mike G's 'Verses' mixtape.
