Kendrick Lamar Salutes Compton in Grammy Promo [VIDEO]

Kendrick Lamar is continuing on his road to greatness in a new promo for the 58th Annual Grammy Awards. With a resounding 11 nominations, including Album of the Year for To Pimp a Butterfly, it’s no wonder K.Dot is jubilant in his celebratory ad.

The video starts off with a panoramic view of Lamar’s hometown of Compton.  “All my life I had to fight,” repeats several different people in the video before they rap the first few verses of K.Dot’s Grammy-nominated song, “Alright.”

A marching band starts to roll down the street as the people continue to sing “we gon’ be alright” until Lamar joins them to scream the mantra together. Others in the video begin dancing as it continues to switch from person to person as they recite the lyrics.

“Where ever greatness begins it ends up here,” reads the caption of the video.

Lamar has garnered a tidal wave of success since releasing To Pimp a Butterfly early last year. President Obama named his song “How Much a Dollar Cost?” as one of his favorite tunes. The 28-year-old rhymer also got to meet POTUS at the White House to talk about the issues effecting the inner city.

Kendrick Lamar will also take the stage in this year’s award ceremony alongside the Weeknd, Adele, Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber. CBS will air the 2016 Grammy Awards live at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Feb. 15 at 8PM ET.
