Rap mogul Jay-Z has been given the OK to perform a “surprise” concert in New York City. According to the New York Post, Mayor Bloomberg has agreed to let Hov stage a concert in midtown Manhattan, close to Times Square.

The Brooklyn rhymer will perform on top of the marquee at the Ed Sullivan Theater where the ‘Late Show with David Letterman’ is taped. The concert will happen on July 8 in support of Jay-Z’s new album, ‘Magna Carta Holy Grail.’

A law enforcement source said, “If he gets permission from the mayor’s office, it’s going to be off the hook. They’ll have to shut down Broadway around the Letterman building. They’ll have to have a strong police presence. It’s going to be chaos with so many fans.”

Interestingly, three years ago, Jay-Z attempted the same feat and was turned down. Nevertheless, a resourceful Jay pulled off a coup and performed with Eminem on the roof of the Ed Sullivan Theater.

We can’t wait to see what surprises Jay-Z has in store for his fans during his July 8 concert.
