Diddy, Future, Rich Homie Quan & More Perform at 2015 BET Hip Hop Awards
The 2015 BET Hip Hop Awards took place at the Boisfeuillet Jones Atlanta Civic Center in Atlanta on Friday (Oct. 9). Several chart-topping rhymers performed at the star-studded event including Diddy, Future, Rich Homie Quan, T.I. and Young Dro and more.
According to the Associated Press, Diddy rocked the mic alongside Lil’ Kim and Styles P. The rap mogul debuted a new song called “Workin’,” which will probably appear on his next solo project under his new deal with Epic Records.
Future also performed at the show albeit it was taped before Friday’s ceremony. The Freebandz leader rapped several of his hits, including “March Madness” and “Where Ya At.” Unfortunately, his partner-in-rhyme Drake was a no-show at the BET Hip Hop Awards.
Other performances include T.I. and Young Dro who performed his street anthem “We in Da City.” Rappers Rich Homie Quan, Dej Loaf, Travis Scott, O.T. Genesis and iHeart Memphis also graced the stage.
Finally, the man of the hour Scarface was in the building to accept the prestigious I Am Hip-Hop Award for his venerable career in hip-hop. Veteran rhyme-slinger Ludacris was on hand to present the honor to the Houston legend whom he called one of “hip-hop’s best storytellers”
The 44-year-old rhymer was short on words during his acceptance speech. At the podium, he thanked his rap peers and fans who were in attendance.
“I’m not (expletive) without y’all,” he said while raising the award in the air before walking off.
Before the event, Rick Ross told AP that Scarface is a true legend in the rap game. “He helped build a culture,” he said. “I look up to him. I learned a lot from him.”
There were also several recorded BET Cyphers, which featured such rappers as Eminem, Erick Sermon and Redman. But the beatbox session with Doug E. Fresh, Nicole Paris and Rahzel earned the most applause, according to AP.
The 2015 BET Hip Hop Awards will air on BET on Oct. 13 at 8 p.m. ET. To check out photos from the event, head over to BET.com.
