Mariah Carey has always had a beautiful singing voice but it took a minute for her debut album to catch on with R&B fans. It wasn't until she'd made an appearance at the 33rd Annual Grammy Awards singing her big ballad, 'Vision of Love,' when she saw her sales shoot upwards and stay there.

Her 1990 debut album, 'Mariah Carey,' found itself at No. 1 for 11 weeks straight. As the daughter of an opera singer, it goes without saying that Carey's calling card was that powerhouse voice. Her style of singing influenced a generation of girls -- including Beyonce Knowles -- who aspired to command the attention of packed auditoriums.
