Young Thug is mainstream hip-hop's most eccentric personality. He's been wracked with legal troubles and release delays these past few weeks. But Thugger isn't going anywhere. Today (Aug. 9) is his 23rd birthday.

Young Thug has been rhyming and thugging since 2011, when he was trying to make it out of the harsher parts of Atlanta. He truly blew up in 2014, the Year of Young Thug. His mixtape Black Portland and Rich Gang: Tha Tour Pt. 1 - the collaboration between Birdman and Rich Homie Quan — were two of his best releases. The "Lifestyle" rapper became one of the most sought-after following his guest appearances on songs by Tyga, T.I., Juicy J and, in 2015, Jamie xx ("Good Times").

His latest effort, Barter 6, got its due props and, in a post-DS2 world, ATL looks to Hy!£UN35 (Young Thug's official debut) to continue its dominance. Hy!£UN35 is supposed to drop on Sept. 24, but its release might depend on if Young Thug could stay out of further legal trouble.

On July 15, he was arrested for making terroristic threats and got hit with more felony charges after weapons and drugs were recovered from his Atlanta home. He and Birdman also got indicted for an alleged conspiracy to kill Lil Wayne.

Hy!£UN35 could be Thugger's last career peak for a while if he gets a conviction on any of those charges.
