Beanie Sigel is currently behind bars and he'll stay there after a sentence was handed down to him yesterday for pleading guilty to drug possession.

The former Roc-A-Fella rapper and Jay-Z protege entered the plea to a misdemeanor count of illegal possession of the painkiller Percocet, Billboard reports. Beanie is also facing tax evasion charges in federal court. Federal prosecutors claim the 'Roc the Mic' rapper owes more than $700,000 for the tax years 1999 through 2005.

Beans' lawyer, Carson Morris, said this about his client: "Obviously, he’s had an incredible amount of success and opportunity in his life. He’s also made some mistakes, which have ended up putting him in custody. He’s ready to go ahead and put that behind him and move on with is life." Morris added, "He has a lot of catching up to do, but he also has a lot of talent and a lot of opportunity, hopefully. So the prospect is that he can get out and move on and start doing something productive with his life."

Beanie broke out with his 2000 debut 'The Truth' and helped usher in a new generation of Roc-A-Fella and Philly rap. His most recent album was last year's 'This Time.'
