After releasing a series of singles that didn't do too well, it seemed like Tamia's career just wasn't going to get off the ground. However, once she released 'Missing You,' her collaboration with Gladys Knight, Brandy and Chaka Khan, in August 1996, things started to turn around.

Not only was the track featured on the 'Set It Off' film soundtrack, but it also became a Billboard Top 40 single and peaked at the 10th spot on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. Following up the single's success, she released her self-titled debut in 1998, which went gold.

Over the course of her career, Tamia released two more albums -- 'A Nu Day' and 'More' with Elektra before splitting from the label to start her own, Plus One Music Group. 'Stranger in My House,' off 'A Nu Day,' stayed at the top of the Billboard Hot Dance chart for 10 consecutive weeks and became Tamia's biggest hit to date. 'Into You,' featuring Fabulous, became the big hit off of 'More.'

The songstress later released 'Between Friends' and 'Beautiful Surprise' independently, which not only released a number of successful singles but also gained her two Grammy nominations in 2013 for 'Beautiful Surprise.'
