As the Queen of Soul, this list would not be complete without Aretha Franklin. Her first moment of success came in 1960, when her first-ever single, 'Today I Sung the Blues,' was released and topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Following that success, Franklin released over 40 LPs, which boasted hits including 'Respect,' 'Chain of Fools,' 'I Say a Little Prayer' and 'Freeway of Love.' Over the course of her 57-year career, she has gone home with 18 Grammys and two special gramophones -- the Living Legend Award and the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Franklin also holds three honorary doctorate degrees from Brown University, Yale and Princeton. Although she turns 71 this year, Franklin still enjoys sharing her voice with everyone, making her perfect for this list.
