Sixteen years have passed since the murder of Tupac Shakur. One of the greatest rappers to ever grab a mic, his life was cut short by a gunman who is still at large today.

On Sept. 7, 1996, the 'Hail Mary' creator was headed to Club 662 in L.A. in a BMW with Death Row Records founder Suge Knight. While at a red light, a Cadillac pulled up beside their vehicle and an unknown assailant opened fire, striking Tupac in the chest, pelvis, hand and thigh. His right lung was also pierced due to a ricocheting bullet.

Hospitalized and treated for his wounds, the 'Changes' lyricist succumbed to his injuries six days later on Sept. 13, 1996. His official cause of death was respiratory failure and cardiopulmonary arrest in connection with multiple gunshot wounds. His death still remains an unsolved mystery.
