The death of this "Overweight Lover" shocked the entire hip-hop community, considering his passing came just nine days after his first televised performance in 15 years.

On Oct. 29, 2011, Heavy D graced the stage at the 2011 BET Hip-Hop Awards, rhyming through a medley of his hits including 'Nuttin' But Love' and 'Now That We Found Love.' Nine days later on Nov. 9, the rap veteran collapsed outside of his Beverly Hills, Calif.,  home and was rushed to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. The news surprised fans who saw him energized and looking to be a picture of good health on TV a week prior.

While pneumonia was initially thought to be the cause of death, Heavy D actually died of a pulmonary embolism -- a blockage of the main artery of the lung.
