Friday (April 19) marked the three-year anniversary of the death of Gang Starr frontman Keith "Guru" Elam. The rap icon passed away in 2010 after a long bout with cancer.

In honor of the late rapper, DJ/producer Marco Polo released a tribute song, 'G.U.R.U.,' featuring Talib Kweli and DJ Premier.

"This is one of the most important records I've ever been a part of," wrote Marco Polo. “Thank you to Talib Kweli and DJ Premier for being a part of this incredible record! We will also be premiering the "G.U.R.U." video very soon (which is directed by Todd Angkasuwan) so stay tuned."

On this beautiful track, Kweli reflects on Guru's legacy in hip-hop and how he influenced his career.

From seeing Gang Starr on Video Music Box to eventually touring with them as member of Reflection Eternal, the Brooklyn rhymeslinger said he was humbled by Guru's presence.

"Then we got the pleasure to tour / You was the realest / Show us love / It was us, Bahamadia and Slum Village / Rest in peace Dilla, R.I.P. Guru / I rock with the greats backed up by the Roots crew," raps Kweli.

"All I know was that you show me love when you with us / You live for the music / Your life is what you [gave] us," he adds.

DJ Premier comes in at the end of the song to provide scratches of Guru's authoritative voice.

Marco Polo's 'G.U.R.U.' is a thoughtful tribute to Guru and serves as the kick-off single for Polo’s upcoming album, 'PA2: The Director’s Cut,' which is due in stores in July.
