Sean Price Dead at 43, Hip-Hop Community Reacts
The hip-hop community is mourning the loss of a true legend. Rapper Sean Price, known for his gruff lyrical style, died on Saturday (Aug. 8). He was 43 years old.
According to his publicist, the cause of death is unknown, but it was reported that he died in his sleep at his apartment in Brooklyn, N.Y.
Sean Price was a beloved rapper who performed as Ruck in the ‘90s rap duo Heltah Skeltah. They released their debut album, Nocturnal, in 1996. He, along with his partner-in-rhyme Rock, were also members of the hip-hop collective Boot Camp Clik.
During the course of his nearly 20-year career, Price released several solo albums including his first effort, Monkey Barz, in 2005 on Duck Down Records. He also collaborated with several producers including 9th Wonder, DJ Premier and Black Milk (as part of the rap group Random Axe in 2011).
Sadly, Price’s newest project, Songs in the Key of Price, will be his posthumous album. The eight-song collection will arrive in stores on Aug. 21 through his own indie label, Ruck Down Records.
Sean Price is survived by his wife and his three children.
Upon hearing the news of Price’s untimely death, members of the hip-hop community went on social media to express their condolences.
We are truly saddened by this loss. Price was one of a kind not only on the lyrical tip but also with his humor (who can forget the MC as Seanwuar?). We send our prayers and condolences to Sean Price’s wife and children and the rest of the Duck Down family. He will be sorely missed. May he rest eternally in peace.
My heart hurts. Sean Price is gone. Rest in Paradise legend.
