Run-DMC were the forerunners of flashiness in rap. The three emcees from Hollis, Queens formed the first hip-hop act to go gold with their self-titled debut album, the first to be nominated for a Grammy and the first to earn platinum certification for their second album 'King of Rock.'

Before hip-hop was fully off the ground on a national level, Run, Jam Master Jay and DMC were already taking the genre to new heights. Beyond incorporating rock and roll, the three are responsible for putting a new -- and marketable -- face on rap music, especially after signing on to a contract with Adidas following their 1986 hit, aptly named, 'My Adidas.'
