Nicki Minaj, Shaggy, Super Cat Make Surprise Appearances at Hot 97’s On Da Reggae Tip [Exclusive Photos]
Summer may be coming to a close, but no one would have guessed that at Hot 97's On Da Reggae Tip at New York City's Hammerstein Ballroom on Friday night (Aug. 30). Reggae and dancehall's best artists got everyone wining and grinding to the island beats.
With Hot 97 radio personality Jabba on the mic to facilitate what felt like an infinite number of artists on the bill, the show attempted to flow in an orderly manner so that all the scheduled and surprise performers could hit the stage.
"I have some good news and bad news," Jabba explained soon after I-Octane and QQ went on. "The bad news is we have so many artists than we do have time but the good news is we have more and more and more good times."
It seemed like every other scheduled performer had his or her own special guest. Cham brought out his wife, O. Shaggy brought out the likes of Red Fox and Super Cat. And Mavado ended his set with special performances with DJ Khaled and Nicki Minaj -- a performance that drove the venue wild.
Perhaps one of the more anticipated performances was Damian and Stephen Marley's set. With a setlist including 'Jah Army,' 'Road to Zion' and 'Welcome to Jamrock,' everyone felt the Marley magic with the passion in the performance. But everyone really came together when the brothers performed 'Could You Be Loved.'
