There’s no question that Kendrick Lamar had a phenomenal year. The Top Dawg Entertainment rapper capped off his 2015 with being the Grand Marshal of the 63rd annual Compton Christmas Parade over the weekend.

Joining K.Dot in the parade was fellow California rhymer YG. According to TMZ, Compton mayor Aia Brown invited both rappers to ride backseat in their respective cars.

Thousands of people showed up to salute their hometown hero. The "Alright" rapper road through the city in a convertible while sitting next to his beautiful fiancee, Whitney. Lamar was also kind enough to snap photos and shoot videos with his fans. Yes, King Kendrick is the man of the people.

And props to YG as well for his hard work this year. The “My N----” rapper was also in the parade meeting and greeting fans. Bompton heroes are in effect!

Earlier this month, Lamar made history by unseating Eminem to become the rapper with the most nominations with 11 mentions for the 2016 Grammy Awards. Michael Jackson still holds the overall record with 12 nominations in 1984.

Lamar’s recent Grammy nominations are more impressive because To Pimp a Butterfly was such a challenging rap album due to the jazz and funk explorations and social themes addressed on the collection.

Nevertheless, it’s an achievement that hip-hop fans should embrace. The 28-year-old rapper continues to push the culture by using his voice to inspire change and promote free-thinking.

Grammy talk aside, it’s good to see Kendrick Lamar being honored by the city of Compton.
