Kanye West left fans in the dark -- figuratively, at least -- with his unique performance at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards. The rapper-producer performed 'Blood on the Leaves,' one of the standout tracks from his latest album, 'Yeezus.'

A shadowy Yeezy performed his blistering verses behind a picturesque image of a wooded landscape. Throughout the performance the only thing you could see is West being emotive with just his body.

West, who was dressed in all-black outfit, didn't perform his polarizing song 'Black Skinhead,' as it was originally reported by the media.

Nevertheless, West's 'Blood on the Leaves' is a powerful song about the urban violence that's erupting in the inner-city, particularly, in his hometown of Chicago.

West, who is now is a proud father of Baby North West, knows all too well the importance of families and children.

The performance and the song probably went over the heads of the audience at the VMAs who were there to party, but at least Yeezy brought some urgency to the stage tonight.
