Justin Timberlake Accepts Video Vanguard Award at 2013 MTV Video Music Awards

Justin Timberlake was a member of one of the biggest boy bands ever, ‘N Sync, is one of the few to embark on a successful solo career and produced some of the last decade’s biggest hits — namely songs like ‘SexyBack’ and ‘Cry Me a River.’ Despite his accomplishments, Timberlake was too modest when Jimmy Fallon presented him with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at the MTV Video Music Awards Sunday night (Aug. 25).

“I don’t deserve this award, but I’m not going to give it back. I’m taking this home. Every video director that I’ve had the fortune of working with, I owe this award to you,” he said as the crowd cheered during his short acceptance speech.

Timberlake has won 14 Moonmen, including seven with ‘N Sync, who he briefly reunited with the singer for ‘Bye Bye Bye’ and ‘Girlfriend’ during his performance during the show. He gave his former group mates a shoutout during his speech.

“Half of the Moonmen that I’ve ever won, I won with those four men right there,” he said, referring to Lance Bass, JC Chasez, Joey Fatone and Chris Kirkpatrick. “So above all else, we can keep it at my house, but I’m going to share this award with them. This is truly an honor. Thank you so much.”

The ‘Mirrors’ singer went on Twitter to thank Fallon for presenting and MTV for giving him the honor.

Timberlake only trails behind Madonna (20) for the most MTV Moonmen in Video Music Awards history. Past recipients of the Video Vanguard award include David Bowie, the Beastie Boys, and Janet and Michael Jackson.
