Jay-Z Almost Signed Lil Wayne to Roc-A-Fella Records

Jay-Z is on his promotional grind for his latest album, ‘Magna Carta Holy Grail.’ This morning (July 10), he sat down with Power 105.1′s The Breakfast Club for an interview.

Hov touched on hot topics such as his place with the Brooklyn Nets organization, critics, the state of New York hip-hop and fatherhood. Jay-Z also reflected on the Roc-A-Fella days with Memphis Bleek and Damon Dash.

One interesting tidbit that came out of that conversation is Jay’s story of how he almost signed Lil Wayne to Roc-A-Fella Records, but was shut down by Birdman.

“Truth is, after I had a meeting with Wayne, I reached out to Baby — out of respect — to tell him [we were about to sign him]. After that, we received a letter at our office for torturous interference,” he recalls.

“I would rather lose that situation and do the right thing than the opposite,” he continues. “I could have signed him and told Baby afterward, but I did the right thing. I’m cool with that decision.”

As for Weezy taking verbal shots at his wifey Beyonce on ‘It’s Good,’ Jay responded on ‘La Familia.’

“N—-s wanna kidnap wifey / Good luck with that bruh / You must gonna hide your whole family / What you think we wearing black for / Ready for that war / Ready for that war ready / You ain’t ready yo, you radio / You ain’t really ready,” he raps.

During his interview with the Breakfast Club, Jay added that he didn’t take Weezy’s lyrical diss about kidnapping Bey as a serious threat.

“It’s part of the sport… the competition. I thought it was just a flip of a line that I said, because I said, ‘You ain’t got my wifey money,’” he explained. “I wasn’t really speaking to him, but, I guess he was holding the flag for his camp. But I didn’t take it as a real threat, just a flip of a line.”
