Amsterdam is in the building - or at least on the Billboard charts. R&B newbie Natalie La Rose is the city's representative, and she turns 27 years old today (July 12).

La Rose's talent was evident at an early age. She was singing and dancing since she was a child and appeared in the Dutch version of High School Musical, playing the role of Taylor Mckessie. She was also a featured dancer in Lloyd's "Dedication to My Ex (Miss That)" video in 2011.

Of course, La Rose is most recognized for her debut single, "Somebody." The bouncy jam, which takes a bit from Whitney Houston's tune "I Wanna Dance With Somebody," features R&B crooner Jeremih and is currently a top 10 single on the Billboard Hot 100 Songs chart.

"Somebody" was partially composed by proven hitmaker Flo Rida who also founded the International Music Group imprint, which is La Rose's label home since 2013.

"I'm a huge fan of '80s music and grew up listening to that. I heard this beat and told Flo Rida we should write to it," La Rose said in an interview with Billboard. "He came up with "I wanna dance with somebody," and we switched up the lyrics a little to make it more nowadays. But eventually we found out the beat wasn't available, so we had to create a new one."

La Rose's "Somebody" is a good indicator of many hits to come for the young songstress. Her latest single is the Fetty Wap-assisted song "Around the World," produced by Max Martin. With that much firepower behind her, La Rose could have another hit on her hands.
