In 1996, four friends from Baltimore had finally broken through to the commercial side of music, releasing their self-titled debut on Island Records, and R&B fans fell in love. The genre had boy bands before Dru Hill of course, but this quartet was of a different cloth. They fell right into place with the climate of music at that time, without trying to be rappers. They could be featured on a track with rhyme-slingers just as easily as belting out their own heartwrenching ballads. Dru Hill personified Mary J. Blige's Hip Hop Soul in group form and tracks like 'Never Make a Promise' and 'In My Bed' remain timeless to this day.
