Drake‘s ‘Wu-Tang Forever’ is one of the announced tracks from his ‘Nothing Was the Same’ album, which drew interest and ire from hip-hop fans. The MC released the track last night (Sept. 12) and some fans on social media grew angry. It wasn’t because it was necessarily a bad song, but rather it sounded like your regular Drake song instead of a send-off to the legendary hip-hop collective.

‘Wu-Tang Forever’ samples ‘It’s Yourz’ from the Wu-Tang Clan‘s sophomore album — where the song title originates from — and features Drake rhyming about a potential one-night stand, his privilege (“Open cases on me for a half a million each / I find peace knowing that it’s harder in the streets / I know, luckily I didn’t have to grow there / I would only go there cause there’s n—-s that I know there”) and perhaps a sideways reference to his infamous run-in with Chris Brown at the club last summer (“I just like the rush when you see your enemy somewhere in the club / And you realize he just not in a position to reciprocate your energy / You ain’t ever worried ’cause he’s not who he pretends to be”).

The only real references to the Wu-Tang Clan are the ‘It’s Yourz’ crooning and the “Young n—- came through on his Wu-Tang” line in the hook.

A female voice joins Drake to sing the hook near the end of the song. That vocal turns out to be from none other than Jhene Aiko, who was reportedly featured the album but not listed on the released tracklist. She wrote “from time” on a tweet that’s since been deleted, so there is that possibility she might show up on a song with that title on ‘Nothing Was the Same.’

‘Nothing Was the Same’ — which was originally supposed to be in stores next week — will drop on Sept. 24.
