It’s a privilege to watch a musician hard at work and Dawn Richard does just that. When she headlined a show at Gramercy Theatre in New York City Tuesday night (May 28), she showed just how much strength, personality and drive she has both onstage and off.

She practiced her moves for her set in a tiny, cruddy room inside Gramercy Theater and even though she was all business, Richard maintained a gracious aura while surrounded by her supportive and beaming mother and other members of her New Orleans crew.

Not only did she go on a half hour earlier than she was supposed to, but one of her backup dancers was pressed for time (due to infamous New York City traffic). However, she made it right on time -- about 10 minutes right before they hit the stage.

Richard and her crew went on to put on a stellar performance onstage, but before the concert started, TheDrop.fm got to hang with the woman who is not only a talented and professional performer but laughs and is cool as a cucumber even when the pressure is on.
