In 1960, a new dance craze took America by storm. A fresh-faced 18-year-old Chubby Checker debuted 'The Twist’ on 'American Bandstand.'

The song was originally recorded by Hank Ballard, who also performed the dance onstage. However, Chubby was the catalyst who brought the dance into the households of mainstream America.

His cover of ‘The Twist’ topped the Billboard Hot 100 Chart on Sept. 19, 1960. It resurfaced to the top of the charts in 1962.
