The singer showed off this portrait ink on her right forearm of the Mexican artist Frida Kahlo at the 2013 NRJ Music Awards red carpet arrivals in Cannes, France.

She told the Daily Record that Kahlo's life has been a huge inspiration for her. “Kahlo’s work is very raw," said Sande.

"I think a lot of females feel, especially in this industry, that they have to be pretty, acceptable on all levels.”

Sande also has a tattoo on her left forearm reading “Un Cuarto Propio,” which translates as "A Room of One's Own," an essay by one of her favorite writers Virginia Woolf.
