Brazilian rapper MC Daleste, real name Daniel Pellegrine, was shot and killed Saturday (July 6) while performing at a concert in the city of Campinas.

The 20-year-old rhymer was in mid-song when a bullet struck him in the abdomen, which caused him to fall back in a sitting position. The entire incident was captured on video and posted on YouTube, where it has garnered over 4 million views.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, MC Daleste was a member of the Sao Paulo-centered "Ostentatious Funk" scene or Sao Paulo funk, which is an offshoot of Rio's Funk Carioca scene. The music is deeply rooted in that city's impoverished town and is known for its empowering conscious messages and sexy grooves.

Since the shooting, fans have flocked to his Facebook page and written emotional tributes to the fallen artist.

Fellow rappers in the Sao Paulo scene are urging others to start a movement of peace to end the violence in the city.

"Let's start a 'funk has awoken' movement," urged MC Rodolfinho, referring to the current mass social protest movement in Brazil which have been deemed "The Giant Has Awoken."

"Funk asks for peace," tweeted the performer known as MC Neghino da Caxeta.

So far, police have no suspects and no arrest has been made.
