Beyonce Sings National Anthem for Critics at Super Bowl Press Conference
Beyonce kicked off her Super Bowl press conference in New Orleans today (Jan. 31) by singing a moving rendition of the National Anthem. The R&B diva sang every word and hit every high note in front of media who sat in amazement. “Any questions?” she asked after her stellar performance.
Nope. None from us. It’s quite clear that Queen Bey could have sung the Star-Spangled Banner with or without a band or tape. But the ‘Crazy in Love’ songbird did clarify why she had to use the pre-recorded audio at President Obama’s 2013 presidential inauguration, which has been a topic of conversation for the past few weeks.
“I am a perfectionist,” she explained. “I practice until my feet bleed and I did not have time to rehearse with the orchestra. Due to no proper sound check, I did not feel comfortable taking a risk. It was about the president and the inauguration, and I wanted to make him and my country proud, so I decided to sing along with my pre-recorded track, which is very common in the music industry.”
“And I’m very proud of my performance,” she added.
Beyonce said that she will absolutely be singing live during her halftime show at Super Bowl XLVII this Sunday (Feb. 3). The Grammy-winning singer has been posting several photos of her rehearsals and it looks like she’s ready to rock the stage. “I am well-rehearsed. This is what I was born to do,” she said.
Beyonce wouldn’t reveal if there will be a Destiny’s Child reunion or if her hubby Jay-Z will grace the stage too. A rumored set list was leaked but that could have changed during her rehearsals this past week.
All and all, Beyonce has her game face on and we can expect a helluva spectacle on Sunday.
Beyonce’s halftime show will air during Super Bowl XVLII, which airs live from New Orleans at 6:30 p.m. ET on CBS.
