Beyonce, Michael Jackson, Run-DMC Album Covers Recreated by Athletes for ESPN the Magazine

We all know that music and sports go hand-in-hand with athletes wanting to be musicians and rappers wanting to be athletes. Those two worlds collide for ESPN the Magazine’s music issue, which features NBA basketball player LeBron James and producer Dr. Dre on the cover.

In the issue, several athletes get a chance to become their favorite musicians and recreate iconic album covers.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Josh Freeman chose to get done up like the late King of Pop Michael Jackson for the ‘Thriller’¬†album cover. Not only does Freeman sort of look like MJ but the recreation of the image complete with the baby tiger is commendable.

NFL players Trent Richardson, LaMarr Woodley and Marshawn Lynch are the kings of the gridiron, so it’s only right they suit up and become the kings of rap Run-DMC. The trio re-imagine the cover of the group’s greatest hits album, ‘Ultimate Run-DMC.’

Four-time Olympic gold-medal sprinter Allyson Felix is almost unrecognizable as the R&B queen Beyonce. The 27-year-old athlete recreates Mrs. Carter’s ‘Dangerously in Love’ cover.

Finally, motocross racer James Stewart portrays the late soul singer-guitarist Rick James. The athlete was bold enough to wear a wig, black tights and red boots for his rendition of James’ breakthrough album ‘Street Songs.’ We don’t know if Stewart is a super freak but he did keep it funky with his image.

Overall, we must say that everyone is spot-on with their album cover looks. You can check out ESPN the Magazine’s music issue when it hit newsstands Feb. 8.
