‘American Idol’ Season 12, Episode 37 Recap: Winner Is Announced, Emeli Sande, Jennifer Lopez + More Perform
Last night, Season 12 of 'American Idol' wrapped up with a huge finale and special performances by some surprise guests.
Twenty-time Grammy Award winner Aretha Franklin sang a medley of her hits with the 2013 Top 5 contestants. Before she performed, she gave Candice Glover a huge shout out. "Tonight, you are a winner. Win or lose, you are a winner," she said to the 'Idol' hopeful. As for her performance, the Queen of Soul still has it! She looked beautiful and sang wonderfully. You know what they say: "black don't crack."
Mariah Carey looked like an angel in a white ball gown, but her vocals seemed a little, umm, well pre-recorded. Whether the diva was lip-syncing or not we're not sure but we still love you, girl.
The Top 4 'Idol' girls were paired with some very notable names. Candice Glover sang 'Inseparable' with her best possible match, Jennifer Hudson. The powerhouse divas killed it! Candice stood-\ up to the 'Dreamgirls' star and multiple award winner nearly effortlessly.
Angie Miller sang 'Titanium' and 'Domino' with her own 'Idol,' Jessie J, and Adam Lambert and Amber Holcomb did a duet of 'Next to Me' with Emeli Sande.
PSY rocked out also. He sang his new song, 'Gentleman', and even shook his booty a little for the audience. That dude is a trip.
A couple of "dawgs" introduced a tribute to Randy Jackson. The 10-year 'Idol' veteran announced last week that he would not be returning to the show next year. It seems that the show will be getting a makeover and new panel of judges next season. Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban will also be leaving the show.
Candice and Kree Harrison sang a final duet before the results were announced. After a nationwide vote, Candice Glover was crowned the Season 12 'American Idol' winner.
She sang her first single, 'I Am Beautiful,' and still managed to belt out the notes even while choked up with tears.
