Every year, AfroPunk Fest celebrates a fusion of both music and culture. This year’s event kicked off over the weekend on Saturday (Aug. 24) in Commodore Barry Park in Brooklyn, N.Y. The day’s main performances included Theophilus London, Dead Prez, Mykki Blanco, Rye Rye and much more.

With two stages of music and dozens of artists it was a party all weekend. Throughout the day, various DJs kept the crowd moving as dance circles randomly broke out. By nightfall, the park turned into an outdoor club.

Hip-hop duo Dead Prez were not scheduled to perform, but they took the Red Stage for a surprise set. Other acts that hit the stage included female rapper Rye Rye and the very infamous Mykki Blanco, who came out swinging wearing his blue silk boxer shorts and had everyone bouncing to his tracks.

Brooklyn rapper Theophilus London graced the Green Stage and performed with soul and swagger, all supported by a full band as he donned a sleek black fedora, sunglasses and blazer. Other hip-hop acts who took the Green Stage included Le1f, DJ Larry B and many others.
